Business & Commerce Commerce and Economic Development in Monmouth
We invite you to visit our community nestled in the cornfields of west-central Illinois. We are proud of our historic town, our regional businesses and our economic future. We realize that a healthy and prosperous rural community in the 21st century can only be the result of the entire community and region working together.
If you are looking to start or grow your business within the City of Monmouth, the City is here to help. Please call Administrator Eric Hanson at 309-734-2141. If you are looking for detailed community data and business assistance services, your first stop is the Western Illinois Economic Development Partnership (WIEDP) website. Choose Our Local Businesses - It Benefits All of Us!
The City of Monmouth encourages our residents to consider choosing our local establishments when shopping or dining. When local businesses are frequented, they are able to grow and prosper and the business community is strengthened, which translates to more jobs available in our area. We recently have been fortunate to have a number of businesses choose to make Monmouth their home and we hope this trend continues as developers realize that Monmouth is a great site in which to locate a business.
There are other benefits to keeping our shopping and dining local:
1) Local shopping generates sales tax revenue for the City's General Fund, which pays for city services we all enjoy.
2) Surveys indicate local businesses provide better customer service and care.
3) Local shops can create distinctive shopping experiences and may be quicker to respond to your needs than businesses not located here.
4) Purchasing locally re-circulates your money through our community to keep it growing and prospering.
5) Shopping locally can save travel time as well as conserve fuel, which reduces our carbon footprint on the environment and makes us less dependent on foreign oil!
6) Local businesses support our charities, schools, churches and community events.
As you can see, it is very important to choose Monmouth businesses whenever possible. Your loyalty not only benefits the businesses, but also helps Monmouth grow and prosper into the future.
