Census 2010

What is the Census?
Every 10 years, it is required by the U.S. Constitution that a census be done.

The census is a count of everyone residing in the United States: all 50 states, Washington, D.C., U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands, and American Samoa.

This includes people of all ages, races, ethnic groups, both citizens and non-citizens.

Fast Facts About the Census
1) All information is strictly confidential - no other groups, agencies, or offices - not even the President of the United States - can access the Census data.
2) The 2010 questionnaire consists of 10 easy questions. Just fill them out and send it back in or drop it at a Be Counted Center - in Monmouth that will be located at the Warren County Public Library.
3) Questionnaires will be sent to addresses, not individuals.
4) You are required by law to participate in the Census.

Why is the Census important to the community of Monmouth?
1) Each year, more than $400 billion in federal funds are awarded to states and communities based on census data.
2) It generates thousands of jobs across the country.
3) Census data affect your voice in Congress by determining how many seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives.
4) Census data guide local decision-makers in important community planning efforts, including where to build new roads, hospitals, and schools.

Complete Count Committee
The Complete Count Committee, made up of members of our community, will be planning and implementing local efforts that address the special makeup of the City of Monmouth.
You will be seeing members of our committee at a variety of functions passing out information and freebies to remind us all about the importance of the Census from now through October 2010. Look for the CCC at various events to remind everyone to fill out and return the Census questionnaire.
