The annual 4th of July Fly-In Breakfast is held at the Monmouth Airport and is sponsored by the Monmouth Flying Club. The club was formed in 1966 and attempts to generate more and more interest in aviation by helping aspiring pilots attain their first licence as well as providing ongoing training for local pilots. The purpose of this event is to promote a general interest in aviation in Monmouth as well as an influx of volunteers. An average of 1,100 breakfasts are served annually and each year there have been an average of 45 visiting aircraft. With so many guests, the flying club could always use a few extra hands. The Park Department, Fire Department, and the police and auxiliary help control traffic, set up for the event, and clean the aircraft hangers. Come learn about aviation and enjoy a delicious breakfast every 4th of July at the Monmouth Airport.

Monmouth College Walk-out, August |
|

Re-established in the 90’s, Monmouth College students are lead by the pipe band down Broadway and throughout the town. In order to get the incoming freshmen acquainted with the area, local businesses are invited to to participate in the walk-out. Most businesses hand out anything from bottled water to pizza coupons. The event usually takes place on the Monday of orientation, following the Matriculation ceremony. It’s a great way for the students to learn about what is available to them outside of the college campus. Almost every new student has participated in the walk-out and has mentioned that it’s one of their favorite events to attend as a newly-titled Monmouth College undergraduate.

Prime Beef Festival, September |
|
The Prime Beef Festival is a long-standing tradition in Monmouth, held the weekend after Labor Day at the Monmouth City Park. The fall festival was started after World War II as a "welcome home" event for returning veterans. In 1948, it was confirmed that more beef flowed into the Chicago stockyards from Warren County, Illinois than any other location. That made Warren County the "Prime Beef center of the world" and the Prime Beef Festival was born.

The current festival includes a Princess pageant, a parade, live entertainment, an amusement park, a multitude of food vendors, demolition derby events, a cook-off, livestock events and auctions and a multitude of other activities for the whole family.
For four days, the entire community (and thousands of folks from out of town) migrates to the park for an annual pilgrimage of corn dogs, onion rings, fun rides and great times. We'll see you at the fair!

The 2012 Prime Beef Festival Parade will begin on Wednesday, September 5th. For full information, visit the festival website at www.primebeeffestival.com.
