Essential City of Monmouth Information

Burning
Burn hours are: Monday through Saturday 12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., NO burning on Sunday.

Citizens can burn in burning barrels or trash burners without obtaining a permit.

Burning on the ground should only be done after obtaining a permit (no cost for the permit) from the Monmouth Fire Department (734-8428) and following the guidelines they provide for where you can burn.

Burning without such permit is a City Ordinance violation and you may be ticketed as a result.

Monmouth Fire Department is located at 601 Industrial Park Road (north station) and 1100 S. Main Street (south station).

Leaves and yard waste cannot be burned on asphalt streets.


City-wide Clean-up
This program is held annually with pick-up on the resident's regular garbage day. This year it was held the week of June 8 - 12, 2009. There is only one pick up per year.

One (1) appliance per household.

The following items are NOT acceptable:

Tires, batteries, oil, cleaning liquids, any liquid materials, wet paint, yard waste, concrete, automotive parts, nothing with oil or gas in it – mowers, trimmers, propane tanks, etc., all loose items must be contained (dry wall, etc.)

There is no limit on the number of acceptable household refuse items during Clean-up Days.

Clean-up Day will be advertised on the radio, in the newspaper and on this Web Site.


Landfill
The City operates a Transfer Station that collects some items not accepted by curbside Waste Management or Maple City Recycling.

Fees will be assessed according to the item(s) being discarded.

Electronics may be recycled at the Landfill. TVs and computer monitors can be taken to the Landfill at a cost of $5.00 each.

Paint can be taken to the Landfill to be recycled.

Landfill is located just east off of S. 11th Street.

Landfill hours are 8:00a.m. – 4:00p.m., compost and yard waste hours are 8:00a.m. – 3:30p.m.

Ordinance Tickets
Tickets issued for City Ordinance Violations.

Ordinance Violation tickets must be paid within 21 days of issuance to avoid going to Court.

After 21 days, all Ordinance Violation tickets will be forwarded to the City Attorney for further action as necessary.

Payments may be made at City Hall or left in the drop box on the west side of the building. These payments may be made with cash or check.

In addition, ordinance tickets may be paid on-line. This will require a credit card and a $5 dollar convenience fee will be added. See the Quick Links on our Home Page.


Parking

There are several areas in the city that have noted restricted parking. These areas are marked accordingly. You can see them on the parking map above.

Parking Tickets
Tickets issued for City Parking Violations.

Parking Violation tickets not paid within 7 days of issuance are subject to progressively higher fines. Tickets will explain the fines for within 7 days, after 7 days, and after 21 days plus Court costs.

After 21 days, all Parking Violation tickets will be forwarded to the City Attorney for further action as necessary.

Snow Routes

Snow route tickets are issued when 2" of snow has fallen. The plows must be able to get through these designated areas to keep the streets open. Failure to move your vehicle which is parked on a snow route when 2" of snow has fallen may result in a parking ticket with a fine of $50.00.
