Welcome to the website of the Monmouth Fire Department! If you don’t find what you are looking for on this site please don’t hesitate to give our department a call at 309-734-8427. If we are not available please keep trying. Emergency responses, fire inspections and training take us away from the station on a regular basis. If you have an emergency please clear your phone line and dial “911”.
Our goal is to serve the community and its visitors in a quick, professional and compassionate manner. We normally interact with people when they are having one of the worst days in their life due to fire, accident, medical emergency or a natural or manmade disaster. We aim to do our best in the situation we are asked to resolve. Please review our website and remember MFD is here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to serve the community.

The Monmouth Fire Department proudly protects the 9,444 people living in an area of approximately 5.0 square miles in the City of Monmouth. As a member of the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS), a fire mutual aid group in Illinois, MFD can respond or request a response to Monmouth from neighboring fire departments, regional fire departments and state- wide fire departments. Our department operates out of 2 staffed fire stations one in the southern part of the City and the other in the northern part of the City.
MFD is a combination department with 15 full-time members and approximately 7 volunteer members. The full-time members staff our 2 fire stations on a 24/7/365 basis and volunteers are utilized during structure fires and other emergencies. The 14 full-time firefighters are divided into three shifts with each shift working a 24-hour shift rotation. The City of Monmouth currently has a minimum staffing level of 4 full-time firefighters on duty at all times. Each shift is lead by an Assistant Fire Chief at Station #1 and supported by a Fire Captain at Station #2. The Fire Chief works a more traditional 40-hour work week.
The Insurance Service Office rates the City of Monmouth with a Class 5 Fire Protection Rating with “10” being the worst and “1” being the best. Insurance companies use this rating to set insurance premiums on properties in the community. The criteria evaluated for this rating come from the capabilities of the Fire Department, Water Department and the 911 Center.
